My family has been in the property business for over 60 years (see 'family background' below).
Elan Properties - founded by Jean Liggett - began because I love Morocco, and want to make available the opportunity to property investors to benefit from the world's best property market, Morocco.
Our company specialises in providing clients with capital growth investments. Our aim is to become the premier agency for buying and selling property in Morocco - both new and old build.
I first became familiar with Morocco when I was a student in Paris. Their culture fascinated me, and it somehow felt familiar to me as French is Morocco's second language. I also speak French. One of my best friends from university married a Moroccan and went to live in Morocco, which added to my curiosity about the country.
Finally, I visited Morocco for the first time in 2000, and straight away knew that it would explode as a holiday destination due to its natural beauty, hospitable people and culture.
Indeed the property explosion is now happening, and according to Martin Roberts, international property writer and former presenter of ITV's travel programme 'Wish You Were Here', it is one of the top 5 property hot spots in the world.
Previous to setting up Elan Properties, I worked as a publisher of mass market weeklies in the women's and TV listings sectors in the UK. Magazines included Take a Break, TV Quick, and TV Choice, and one of the key criteria for success is understanding the reader, their needs, and aspirations, and delivering this to them in the magazine.
While in the magazine business, I also worked on several large company acquisitions, and have a lot of experience at doing due diligence. One of the key aspects of due diligence is determining whether what one is intending to buy is a good investment. Due diligence is critical to being a successful property investor and vendor.
I also did media consultancy for some very well known media organisations including Capital Radio, the Mirror Group, EMAP plc, CNBC, the Readers Digest, and IPC Media (owned by Time Warner)
Before I came to the UK, I worked in one of the world's largest advertising agencies in New York, Ogilvy & Mather, again focusing on understanding the consumer and translating this into effective advertising and marketing campaigns.

Before I set up Elan Properties, I sold some properties in Spain. They have been a fantastic success for the buyers. I checked out the development company before I worked with them so that I was sure that the properties I was selling were excellent investments.
The founder, Jean Liggett, also has over 100 apartments in the US, which she co-owns with her mother, brother, and uncle.
